“(Cinematographer) Jay Oza is a tough cookie.”Zoya Akhtar
“In this context, Zoya Akhtar’s Gully Boy stands out for many reasons: its nuanced storytelling, superlative performances, luscious camerawork (Jay Oza)”Kunal Ray (The Hindu)
“We moved a lot. Jay Oza [the cinematographer] is a beast and carried that camera. Usually, directors of photography tend to light neutrally and then add tones in the grading. But places like Dharavi have mixed lighting. There will be tungsten light and tubelights and fairy lights and candelight. Light doesn’t come into many of the houses, and they are dark. You don’t see the sky much. When the film gets out, you breathe. The lighting was beautiful and real and authentic”.
“Made In Heaven is visually striking and lushly cinematic, shot by Jay Oza (who also shot Akhtar’s recent smash Gully Boy)”
“Kudos to the cinematographer especially for the music video of the song ‘Gully Boy’ which is aptly shot entirely on the narrow ‘gullies’ of Dharavi.”
